Our Story

Sally and Bruce welcome you to The Gardener’s Greenhouse. Originally from Hamilton, we decided to move away from city life to Whitianga from 2009 to 2020. During this time we caravanned and worked around Australia for five years. This experience encouraged us to move to our peaceful lifestyle block in the Tasman area.

We hosted many guests as managers of several large caravan parks in Australia and Sally also worked as a cook on a 3 million acre cattle station in the Northern Territory which strengthened her life time love of baking cakes and her dream of having a registered kitchen. If you are here for a special occasion and would like to order a cake, please click the link below. We are experienced hosts and understand the importance of comfort and relaxation while on holiday.

Our hectare of wetlands is a ‘work in progress’ with 520 native trees and shrubs planted in 2020 a further 800 in 2021 and 1,160 in 2022. Our vision is to convert the area into a mainly native sanctuary, attracting more birds, bees and beneficial insects.

We built a butterfly house in 2021 to address the declining number of monarch butterflies in our region. It started with more than 100 hand reared caterpillars and chrysalises in the lounge and we successfully released the same number of butterflies. The butterfly house is at the bottom of the garden which you are welcome to visit. In the 2021-2022 season we released 1,100 healthy butterflies, with 95 being the most in one day.
