The Gardener’s Greenhouse combines my love of gardening, baking and cake decorating using natural ingredients and edible flowers. It has culminated in ‘clean’ cakes and baking. That means ‘made from scratch with no artificial food colouring’. All cakes are made to suit your preferences with quality ingredients, some locally grown when available. I need a minimum of 48 hours notice for standard cakes and 14 days for larger cakes.

I have a registered kitchen and look forward to making your day even more special with a beautiful cake or bake. Some flavours and garnishes use seasonal ingredients, edible flowers and food colouring from the garden so they will be unique to you.

Delivery is usually available to Motueka, Moutere and Mapua $10.00, Riwaka $15.00, Kaiteriteri, Richmond and Stoke $20.00, Nelson Central $25.00.

Sorry I am fully booked 19-22 September, away 5-24 October, booked 9-10 November, 27 November to 2 December 2024, 17- 22 January. Fully booked for weddings 22 February to 8 March 2025, 25 March to 30 March 2025. Away 2 April to 14 May. PLEASE NOTE: For Saturday bookings from September to March, cakes can only be picked up after 4pm, or the Friday afternoon prior.

Cakes

This menu will give you an idea of flavours, sizes and products available. They are a guide only as they often use seasonal ingredients and flowers. They can also be changed to suit your individual preferences and budget. All multi-layer cakes are made with fruit compote, ganache, buttercream or sauce fillings and are frosted with Swiss Meringue Buttercream or Cream Cheese Icing. Specialty flours, free range eggs, chocolate and caramel decorations, nuts and edible flowers are included in the price. Cakes are baked uniquely for you so ideally, I need a minimum of 48 hours notice. I don’t use artificial food colouring and can achieve pastel colours naturally. Serving sizes are approximate as it often depends whether the cake is served as a dessert or after a meal with tea and coffee. Please ask if you need some help with this.

Most of the cakes and bakes can be adapted to be gluten free, and some small cakes can be dairy or allergy free, not totally sugar free, depending on the flavour and the type of frosting. Sometimes there will be an extra cost for this.

23cm (9”) square sheet cake - Single layer from $95 (Serves approx. 16), Double layer from $140 (Serves 20 - 30)

23 x 36cm (9” x 14”) rectangle sheet cake - Double layer $180 - $200 (Serves 30 large, 60 small)

Dark Chocolate and Beetroot Cake

A celebration chocolate birthday cake filled with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream and mixed berry compote. This cake is topped with Whittaker’s milk chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream, strawberries and raspberries (in season), cornflower petals and mint leaves. You can’t taste the beetroot! It just gives the cake some depth.

Triple Layer 6” (15cm) Cake

This cake is a triple layer Lemon Cake. It can be plain, Lemon and Blueberry, or Lemon and Coconut. It has two different fillings, lemon curd and raspberry compote. The cake is decorated with home grown fresh and pressed flowers from the garden. The colours of the flowers are seasonal.

Caramelised Apple and Date Cake

This is my favourite flavour. A deliciously moist Apple and Date Cake filled with caramel sauce, topped with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream swirls. Decorations can include candied hazelnuts, toffee springs and fresh edible flowers from the garden.

Square or Rectangle Cake

Any flavour or style. This cake is a Lemon Buttermilk Cake with Swiss meringue buttercream, coloured with homegrown Black Doris plums. It is filled with lemon curd and is topped with fresh edible flowers from the garden and Whittaker’s white chocolate butterflies.

Raspberry and White Chocolate Cake

A popular flavour, filled with raspberry compote and Swiss meringue buttercream. This cake is decorated with miniature Dahlias, Cornflowers, Creeping Savory and Whittaker's white chocolate ‘bark’.

Banana or Carrot Cake

A double layer cake topped and filled with caramel sauce and vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, with seasonal flowers from the garden. These are Marshmallow flowers, Snapdragons and Cecile Brunner roses.

Single Layer Chocolate Cake

This is a single layer Chocolate and Beetroot Cake with chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream and seasonal flowers from the garden. These ones are hops and cornflowers.

Single Layer Cake

This is an 8” (20cm) Vanilla Cake with Swiss meringue buttercream, snapdragon flowers, primroses and chervil. The butterflies are coloured with homegrown blackcurrants and blue butterfly pea flowers.

Raspberry and White Chocolate Cake

Seasonal roses and mint leaves with pelargonium petals on a Raspberry and White Chocolate Cake, Whittaker’s white chocolate shards and a filling of raspberry Swiss meringue buttercream and raspberry compote.

Carrot Cake

A very moist cake filled with caramel sauce and vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream with edible and non toxic flowers from the garden.

Triple Layer Cake (15cm - 6”)

Available in any flavour with your choice of filling and Swiss meringue buttercream. The stripes on this cake are coloured with homegrown black currants and the edible flowers, Verbena, Snapdragon and roses, are from the garden.

Triple Layer Cake (20cm - 8”)

This cake is decorated with palette knife leaves, coloured with organic green spirulina. It would suit any flavour, Raspberry and White Chocolate, Hummingbird made with bananas, coconut and pineapple, Carrot, Lemon or Chocolate and Beetroot.

Mixed Berry and White Chocolate Cake

Cake layers are made with your choice of berries and white chocolate chips, filled with a berry compote and Swiss meringue butter cream. This cake is edged with Whittaker’s white chocolate shards and topped with fresh strawberries (when in season).

Gluten Free Chocolate Cake

A 'Welcome Home' Gluten Free Chocolate and Beetroot Cake with a raspberry 'red carpet' garden path. The cake is decorated with homegrown pressed and dried edible flowers from the garden.

Refined Sugar Free Cake Tasman Gardeners Greenhouse.jpg

Refined Sugar Free Cake

This cake is naturally sweetened with stewed apple, pear slices, mashed bananas and dates. It tastes better made with some sugar eg. coconut or monk fruit with the addition of organic maple syrup to the frosting. The decorations are home grown Stevia flowers and beetroot dyed apple slices. Best as a single layer cake.

Celebration Cake with Natural Food Colours

Homegrown food colouring - blueberry, plum, turmeric, carrot and beetroot with organic blue and green spirulina. Your cake can be any flavour with different flavours for each tier. This is a Banana Cake filled with caramel sauce and Swiss meringue buttercream.

First Birthday Cake

Any flavour cake of your choice. This cake is filled with Swiss meringue buttercream, decorated with fresh edible flowers from the garden, macarons, chocolate butterflies, strawberries and mint. It comes with an individual smash cake for the star of the day.

Salted Peanut and Caramel Slice

A thick caramel filling between a chocolate, coconut and peanut butter base, topped with salted peanuts and Whittaker’s dark chocolate ganache. $4.50 each, minimum order is for six.

Lemon Cupcakes with a Filling

Cupcakes can be any flavour and come with a filling and topping, and edible flowers from the garden. They can also be gluten and dairy free. $30 for a box of six, GF $35.

Cookie Selection

A cookie stack makes a nice gift. This one has salted peanut brownies and Whittaker’s dark chocolate chip biscuits. More varieties are available.

Wholemeal Ginger Slice

A chewy wholemeal and coconut slice made with New Zealand grown rolled oats, topped with ginger fudge frosting. $4.00 each, minimum order is for six.

Berry Cupcakes with Filling

Vanilla, chocolate (or your choice of flavour) cupcakes with a berry or caramel filling topped with Swiss Meringue Buttercream, seasonal berries and edible flowers from the garden. $30 for a box of six, GF $35.

Tan Square

The traditional New Zealand tan square classic with a double caramel centre, shortbread base and crumble topping. $4.00 each, minimum order is for six.

Chocolate Eclairs or Cream Puffs

Chocolate Eclairs topped with chocolate ganache and Cream Puffs dusted with icing sugar. Both are filled with Vanilla pastry cream (Creme Patissiere) mixed with whipped cream. $4.50 each, minimum order is for six.

Calendula Seed Crackers

Crunchy five seed crackers with homegrown calendula petals and organic seeds. Can be made with your preference, brown rice flour or cornmeal. Delicious on a cheeseboard served with hummus. $10 for a 200g pack.

Desserts

Dessert tables are a specialty and can be set up for you onsite, and mixed and match to suit your theme and budget. Individual desserts can add that extra touch to your dinner party or special event.

Caramel Cheesecake

A ‘no bake’ cheesecake blended with homemade caramel sauce and topped with vanilla whipped cream, candied hazelnuts, caramel sauce and toffee springs.

Double Chocolate Brownie

Decadent and fudgey, this chocolate brownie is made with a whole block of melted Whittaker’s dark chocolate and studded with chocolate chips.

A New Zealand classic, topped with vanilla whipped cream, fresh summer fruit and homemade hokey pokey.
